Our visit will begin at The Mansion House where we will have the opportunity to meet the founders of the projects The Reader and the Wildlife Garden - Jane Davis and Paul Harris.
Meeting at 11am in the Foyer of the Mansion House we will then move to the Old Café where tea and coffee will be available, which is included in your ticket.
In the morning Paul Harris will talk about the design and setting up of the Wildlife Garden after the Glasshouses were removed. He will then take us on a tour of the garden which has been featured on BBC’s ‘Gardeners’ World’.
In the afternoon at 2.00pm, Jane Davis will talk about The Reader Project, which was her initiative and about the transformation of the Mansion House since we last visited. This will be followed by a tour of the building and then a visit to the Calder Stones. There will also be an opportunity to see the painting which has been commissioned by The Reader and funded by the National Lottery, ‘Now We Sit With It’ by local artist Sumuyya Khader.
There is a Café on site where it is possible to purchase lunch before our afternoon session, or plenty of picnic tables and benches if people prefer to bring their own.
It is anticipated that Jane will talk for about 45 mins and the tour of the garden will be of a similar time, so we will be finishing around 4.00pm.
