Late summer visit to Ruthin Craft Centre with a talk by Verity Pulford

One of North Wales’s most attractive market towns dating back to at least the 13th century nestled in the Vale of Clwyd in Denbighshire. At the edge of the town centre, Ruthin Craft Centre is one of the most prestigious galleries in Wales dedicated to contemporary craft and applied arts. It hosts exhibitions by leading Welsh and international artists, alongside a shop featuring high-quality ceramics, jewellery, textiles, and design pieces.
We will meet Verity Pulford in the craft centre in Gallery 3 at 11am. Verity is a glass artist living in Wales In 2025 she was awarded the prestigious Gold Medal for Craft and Design at the National Eisteddfod of Wales. She will talk about her beautiful glass works exhibition inspired by walks in the local countryside and plant life such as lichens and marine creatures. It is clever and delicate work.
In Gallery 1 are works by Halima Cassell MBE a world-renowned sculptor and ceramicist who works in clay, stone and bronze inspired by architecture, geometry and ‘the play of light and shadow on the forms’. A beautifully and sensitively curated exhibition of a brilliant artist.
There are several other artists also on show including machine embroidered textiles by Darren Ball celebrating sewing including fair isle knitting and topiary!
There is a Café on site for coffee/tea and for lunch or walk into the town to find one of the many eateries there.
After lunch @ 2pm we will gather in by Bethan M Hughes’ courtyard studio. She is Artist-in- Residence and happy to talk to us about her work which is rooted in the heritage of traditional Welsh quilt-making and some of which has just returned from an exhibition at the Welsh Senedd.
You may like to finish your day with a wander of Ruthin’s cobbled streets, explore its centuries-old castle, visit the museum in the 17th century gaol, or Wales’s oldest surviving timbered town house and garden.
