With a settlement that dates to before the Domesday assessment of 1086 the village, church and Hall are steeped in a history rich in Viking connection, religious tensions and a literary squire.
The Friends of St Mary’s will guide us through something of this history as we tour the Church and Village in the morning. A walk via the Harkirk - the site of a tenth-century church and burial ground - will take us to the fifteenth-century buildings which now accommodate CHETS, the Crosby Hall Educational Trust.
A homemade sandwich/cake/fruit lunch is included in the price of the ticket. Please let me know if you have any dietary requirements/allergies.
After lunch we have been kindly invited by Mark Blundell CVO, Squire of Little Crosby and Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside 2017-2025, to visit his home at Crosby Hall where he will talk to us about his family history, including some insights into the extraordinary writings of his ancestor Nicholas Blundell and the persecution of a family that remained steadfast in its faithful following of Roman Catholicism.
We will meet at the Parish Hall at 10.30am. Details regarding parking to follow once tickets have been allocated; car sharing would be helpful.
